Deep beneath the Thames lies the Grand Entrance Hall of Brunel's pioneering Thames Tunnel. The 1843 shaft has been carefully adapted with a cantilevered staircase so audiences can descend into its soot-blackened brick cylinder. The Brunel Museum now programmes plays, operas and concerts in this raw industrial space; a 2023 event described the 'stunning new Tunnel Shaft space, 16 metres underground' where choral voices rang around the circular chamber. It's a hidden cathedral where engineering history meets performance.
