Khalsa Jatha – Central Gurdwara

The Sikh practice of langar finds daily expression at Khalsa Jatha, the oldest gurdwara in the UK. In the downstairs dining hall, volunteers serve hot vegetarian meals to anyone who walks in, from early until late. There's no booking, no payment and no hierarchy – just the simple ritual of covering your head, removing your shoes and sharing a plate with strangers. It's food as equality and welcome.
